A student and teacher working together in the classroom

Instilling a curiosity & a love of learning

Throughout their elementary school journey, FIS students follow the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP): an engaging, relevant and challenging framework that is reflective of FIS' guiding statement.

The FIS elementary school experience supports holistic development and is reflective of our philosophy of a balanced education. With small class sizes and a high teacher to student ratio, our students feel encouraged and supported as they discover their passions, broaden their skill sets, and spark new friendships through opportunities provided both inside and outside of the classroom.

Throughout the PYP and beyond, FIS students learn through inquiry and reflection; increasingly taking responsibility and ownership of their learning and becoming more aware of the social impact of their personal actions.

The FIS elementary education provides a solid foundation for our students as they move on to Middle School and beyond.

Our PYP curriculum is centered around inquiry, discovery, exploration and reflection and transcends traditional subject boundaries.

Our Curriculum

As they progress through the elementary school, FIS students strengthen their knowledge and skills across, between and beyond subject areas - deepening their understanding, making real-world connections and becoming agents of their own learning. We embed a philosophy of action and service throughout the FIS curriculum and challenge our students to become responsible global citizens and decision-makers.

The vast majority of learning in the Elementary School takes place in the home classroom and is complemented by specialist subject classes (including music, physical education, art and drama).

Through the Primary Years Program at FIS, students are empowered to build the skills necessary to take ownership over their learning, creating resilient global learners that make an impact on their world.
