Governance

Fukuoka International School is an independent, non-profit, private school incorporated in Japan and accredited as a School Juridical Body ("Gakko Hojin")  by the Japanese Ministry as well as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

A thirteen member Board of Directors, elected for two-year terms by the Board of Trustees, governs the school. A Chairperson for the Board of Directors will be elected from and by the Directors.

The Board of Directors make major strategic decisions regarding the direction and character of the school.  Current members are from the Bank of Fukuoka, Ltd., Kyushu Electric Power Co. Inc., Kyushu University, Fukuoka City, Nishi-Nippon City Bank Ltd., Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd., Saibu Gas Co., Ltd. and the U.S. Consulate Fukuoka. Operational and managerial decisions are the responsibility of the Head of School and the Head of School is accountable to the Board of Directors.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees meets, historically, three times a year. They are comprised of all members from the Board of Directors and membership from parents & guardians, consulates, significant financial patrians to the school and advisory members. The Board of Trustees must be consulted regarding significant decisions and events such as the annual budget or the appointment of a new Head of School.

The Board of Trustees selects the Head of School and will develop the operating policies and conduct the business of FIS. "Articles of Endowment " provide details and guide Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.
