Welcome and thank you for taking the time to explore the Fukuoka International School (FIS) website. The secondary division at FIS is organized into two groups: the high school (grade 9-12) and the middle school (grades 6-8). Our student body is culturally rich, including students from countries around the world. Our global faculty, comprised of experienced, certified teachers, values the opportunity to contribute to such a diverse learning environment.
Our high school delivers a dynamic, highly academic, comprehensive curriculum, focused on developing a culture of acceptance and an appreciation of differences among people. Our curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. We are committed to developing our students' many talents and interests. Our athletics and Model United Nations programs offer students the opportunity to travel, compete with peers at other schools, and develop leadership qualities that will benefit them throughout their lives. Our fine arts program enriches both our students and the broader school community. Students are also involved in extra-curricular activities such as student council, community service, yearbook or one of multiple after-school clubs. All students are strongly encouraged to pursue the full IB Diploma as part of their preparation for admission to some of the world's finest universities. Alternatively they have the option of completing subject-specific IB Certificates. All students, through their IB Diploma/Certificate courses will automatically pursue their FIS High School Diploma.
Our middle school retains its own distinct personality through its approach to classroom instruction, learning expectations, group activities and social interactions. We strive to provide an education that is challenging, student-centered and developmentally appropriate which provides students with opportunities to develop their academic skills, acquire knowledge and understanding, and explore special talents and interests. The middle school program integrates class trips, athletic events, and fine arts to help develop well-rounded adolescents. Each subject in the curriculum is important to the development of the whole child.
A core attribute of FIS is the spirit of community which permeates the environment. Parents, faculty and students work as a team to help create meaningful learning experiences. Our community is based on a foundation of open communications that helps create a collaborative and rewarding educational experience for everyone.
We hope that this website helps you understand us a little better, and we encourage you to contact us for more information about FIS.
