A. LANGUAGE ARTS

Reading
●For enjoyment and to gather information
● Individual, group, silent and oral reading
●Emphasis on reading skills: phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, prediction and word-attack

Writing
●For creativity and communication
● Use the of the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing program:
Ideas, Word choice, Organization, Conventions, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Presentation

Listening and Speaking
●Sharing information, presenting drama, poetry, and oral reports, listening to others, gaining information, and following directions

B.MATHEMATICS

●Skills will be acquired in the following areas: computation, number concepts, measurement, graphing, geometry, and fractions
●Skills are acquired through “hands-on” exploration, teacher demonstration, practice, games, and drill
●Focus is given to problem solving and application as well as accuracy in math facts.

C.SOCIAL STUDIES

●Main Idea: the interaction between people, places, and the environment
●Themes: neighborhoods and communities, geography, character education, celebrations of people around the world, and special focus on Asian and Australian continents
●Character Education: teaching students about the six core traits of character: caring, fairness, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, and citizenship in order to help children be able to “make decisions that benefit themselves, their community, and the world”

D.SCIENCE

●Themes: interactions of living things; energy and motion; changes over time; solids, liquids, and gases; and healthy bodies
